Very grainy (textured) print previews

I've been printing photos for Windows 11 with good results, but now if I try to do exactly the same (even with the same pictures) the previews aree very grainy - like a texture filter effect has been applied - any ideas, please?

Is the display driver installed properly? what is the resolution currently viewable on the monitor, also with the colour depth?
