In the ever-changing world of cyber threats, some old enemies are up to their old tricks again. This time, it’s the latest version of a Windows worm, Raspberry Robin.

Remember OpenAI’s AI worm? Well, cybercriminals took a page out of that book and came up with their version. Not only does this malware evade security measures, but it also spreads like firewalls across multiple devices, just like its AI cousin.

But are worms still around in today’s world? Well, yes, they are. In 2021, Raspberry Robin was used to target tech giants and manufacturers. Instead of using online methods, hackers opted for USB flash drives. Employees plugged these infected devices into their systems, unknowingly giving access to hackers.

According to HP Wolf Security, threat actors are using Windows script files (WSF) to spread their Raspberry Robin worm. Using malicious emails such as malvertising and spam, hackers entice victims to download infected files, evading detection and antivirus software.

Note that Raspberry Robin isn’t just a worm that can break into your network. It’s loaded with dozens of siblings, known as “worms,” that can infect your system. Some of the most common of these are SocGholish Cobalt Strike.

So, in order to protect yourself from this cyber threat, don’t click on attachments in emails, especially from unknown sources. Instead, invest in reliable antivirus software and identity theft protection. The Raspberry Robin resurgence reminds us that vigilance is the key to staying safe online. Don’t take any unnecessary risks, stay informed, and stay vigilant.
