How to Add a Store App Shortcut to Desktop

When you install an app from the Windows Store, you'll find that it's searchable from the start menu and you can pin the app to the taskbar or start menu, however it doesn't give an option to create a desktop shortcut. You may have tried searching for the app and then dragging the icon to the desktop, thinking it would create a shortcut - however this is blocked.

However there is a way you can easily create a desktop icon for store apps!

  1. First, open the start menu and click all apps:


  2. Now search for the app you wish to pin, or scroll down the list to find it. Now click and drag the icon to the desktop. Once you release the mouse button, a shortcut to the store app will be created on your desktop:
