Did you know that the latest update to Microsoft Edge Canary significantly changes the browser's password handling? This change impacts how passwords are kept in the Edge browser's wallet.

Previously, Edge would prompt users to save passwords when logging onto websites, which was indeed convenient but potentially compromised privacy. However, after this update, the default setting for saving passwords will be grayed out, indicating that passwords will not be saved automatically without user intervention.

If you're used to Edge's former behavior, don't worry. While automatic saving is disabled by default, passwords can still be manually saved. To manage your options, you just need to access Settings > Profiles > Wallets in the browser.

If trying to understand the bigger picture, it looks to be a step toward giving customers more control over their data and privacy. Edge requires manual involvement to save passwords, ensuring users actively choose which credentials are retained, boosting transparency and security.

Think about all those times when using a shared or public device when automated password storage may offer risks. With this update, Edge urges you to take control of your security by consciously deciding when to save passwords.
