Photos washed out after cropping/editing in Microsoft Photos

I’m having an issue with the Microsoft Photos app. Whenever I make adjustments to a photo—like cropping, resizing, or straightening—the image ends up looking washed out. I now have a mix of bright, saturated originals and a bunch with a grey overlay, which is super frustrating.

I’m not into complicated photo editing, just basic adjustments. I’ve checked for an auto-enhance option to turn off but didn’t find anything.

Can anyone help with this problem or suggest an alternative program for simple edits? Thanks a lot!

Photos is in my opinion junk. It always messes up my photos when I try to use it. It is now permanently banned from my computer.
For editing photos I am using Irfan View.
