Pin to Taskbar and others

I have been trying to find a way to pin the home iconto the taskbar but so far I haven't been able to do so. Why is this an issue?
Another thing I was wondering about is the start menu - I would like to be able to pin that open sometimes and have the ability to move it to the right or left.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try click and drag the HOME icon to desktop, and from there right-click and select PIN TO TASKBAR ?
