New computer build.Installed Windows 11, upgraded. Now at 22H2 OS build 1945.6131 . I can see the CD/DVD player with File Explorer. I load a disc but it isn't detected. I can use "eject" and the tray comes out. I've reloaded the driver for the player. No change. I saw a couple of posts on the net about registry changes which say they might fix the problem but I am not all that knowledgeable and am reluctant to try something like that. So the question is how to proceed.

Is the drive seen in the BIOS [that has to happen first or Windows won't see it] and Device Manager?

First thing I'd do is get Win11 Upgraded to Version 23H2 and then updated to the current Builds.

My ODD isn't seen until I click on This PC in File Explorer then add the disc and try.

That is Windows 10, not 11. Windows 11 is build 22631.4460

It seems like that dvd player cannot read the dvd. That might be cause by a dirty laser or worse, a bad laser.
You can use a Q-tip and some isopropanol to very gently clean the lense of the laser when the tray is out. If that does not help, your device might be gone.

For testing clients' machines I keep an LG External USB ODD in my toolkit, about $35 at WalMart a year ago. Also handy for use on the later models of Notebooks without the ODD.
