KB5040527 is causing issues with ASRock Polychrome, preventing it from working properly. To resolve this, uninstall KB5040527 and restart your PC. Before doing so, open Task Manager, find "Windows Explorer," right-click it, and select "Restart." If you see a "Critical Error" pop-up, try restarting Windows Explorer again within Task Manager. I followed this process, and it worked 100%.

ASRock Polychrome was functioning correctly before this update, but stopped working afterward. Uninstalling the update restored its functionality. You might want to address this issue and check both ASRock and Reddit for additional information.

That post was back in August '24 and for Version 23H2. I got that KB in July '24, no issues.

I see that KB5040527 has caused issues for some people using ASRock Polychrome and other RGB software, but it doesn’t seem to affect everyone. Since that post was from August 2024 and updates have rolled out since then, check if ASRock or Microsoft has released any fixes.

If you're still having trouble, you could try uninstalling the update like the original poster suggested. But I’d also recommend checking for newer Polychrome software or driver updates. If that doesn’t help, maybe a clean reinstall of Polychrome could work, or checking if more recent Windows updates have resolved the issue.
