Hello Dear Sir,

How are you doing???

Thanks for helping everybody out of their PC problems.

I have a final trial for your exceptional capabilities.

Let's see how do you handle something real important???

Something I have been failed to trouble shoot own my own even I have tried all kind of solutions, even regedit and uppercase and lower case removal everything in my power.

Let's see if you are good enough to solve out this issue successfully???!!! :)

I have tried to connect Hitachi + LG = HL slim portable Blu-ray Writer (with 128GB BDXL Burning capability).

Model: BP55EB40

SVC Code: EB40

Manufactured: Dec. 2021 (20-12-2021)

Rom Version: 1.03

Windows Home Edition (English Version) Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1848)

I have recently reinstalled Windows 11 Home edition on both laptops MSI GE66 Raider 10SFS & MSI GL66 Pulse 12UGK.

But none of them detect the above mentioned devices (I have 6 of them) and none of them works on both laptops. It is with USB2.0 interface and both USB2 and USB3.1 ports on both laptops do not detect them and there is nothing in device manager even I have installed all drivers on both laptops and have them Windows updated to full latest capacity.

No devices appears in device manager, if it was error with one drive I cannot presume that all 6 have error???

But funny thing is that I can open HL devices by pressing button on them???

Please take your time, and if you manage to solve out this issue successfully (make appear HL BP55EB40 in Windows explorer and Device manager) then my respect will be yours.

OK??? :))))

Thanks,

Have a great weekend,

Best regards,

Just a guess !
Can you see the devices in the Diskmanager (which is something different than the DeviceManager) ?
Rightclick on "This PC", then "Manage", wait for the console to open, then "DiskManagement" in the left menu.
If your device appears there, does it have a drive letter associated with it ?
If not, rightclick on the device, select "Modify drive letter and path" and give it a letter (dont't use "B").
Then restart your computer and your device should appear in Explorer.

Hi,
And thanks for your answer.
I have checked but forgotten to mention.
There is no device in diskmanager.
Good thinking and thanks for your answer.

Connect the drive;

1. Device Manager -> View - Show Hidden Devices
2. In Disk Management, if found use alternate drive letter (eg. X,Y,Z)

I have tried both things.
I mean that I have looked for it in Disk Management too, it does not appear there either.
And of course I have looked for hidden devices in device manager, but still nothing.

There is not a thing I have not tried, but funny thing is that this problem is with all 6 of them???
I mean if it was problem with only one drive I could understand. But all of them???

I told you it was a real challenge, but thanks for your answers and please keep on posting with your fantastic ideas. :)
No it's not Ironic, but this problem is real tough.

Thanks,
Have a nice Sunday!!! :)

Did you try Diskpart (from the cmd prompt) to find yout device ?
Otherwise the only thing I can further imagine is a driver problem: either a specific driver for your device or something with the USB drivers.

PS: see also option (6) here

Hi,

I had tried power settings, but not Disk-part.

Thanks for the Idea!!! :)

When I tried Disk-part it does not mention the drive even it is attached.
Here is a screenshot below.

What do you think could be reason for not detecting inside diskpart???

Thanks,

Hello,

I can see that you are doing your best.
This situation is very difficult. Never before I have seen such a complicated issue. And in my limited experience of life what I have learned is whenever things got complicated, Things go wrong.

But you are doing great. I will try to buy this drive repair program to fix this.

If you get any new ideas please let me know.

Once again thanks for your incredible help.

I have tested program. It sadly failed leads me to believe that it may be a hardware related issue.
But if it is HW related why the honor did they all 6 worked with my ex-OS System (Windows 10 Home Edition V21H2).
Problem appeared after going over to Windows 11 V22H2.

Any other ideas??? Thanks RogerOver for your help throughout. You have come up with great idea like Diskpart. :)

Thanks

Last tentative: when testing the above freeware, did you click this (blue cercle in the screenshot) ? (Haven't tried it, but saw it when searching for the link to the software).

Another "try" method ..
  • disconnect the drive
  • forcibly remove all IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers from Device Manager
  • run this command in CMD (as Administrator) reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
  • restart your computer to apply the changes! DVD/CD should be working properly now! If you dvd is detected and cannot play the files, you may need to download and install dvd players like VLC Player
  • plug-in the external drive (make sure there's a movie kind of CD or DVD in the drive, don't leave the drive empty)
appreciate the feedback :)

I am still thinking how it is possible that something works in WIN 10 and doesn't in WIN 11, as WIN 11 is essentially WIN 10.

(1) BIOS ?
Did you try to disallow USB 3.0 in Bios and switch to 2.0 and vice versa ?
(Perhaps there are other USB settings in Bios, ... I can't go to the Bios now, as I am downloading a very big file).

(2) Did Microsoft do something with the control of external drives through Defender ? Found something here, but this is pure speculation https://borncity.com/win/2022/12/05...features-for-removable-media-like-usb-sticks/

(I understand that the idea with the "not enough current" on the other forum didn't work either :(

Anybody with any new ideas we may have overlooked???

Thanks
I may have missed it mentioned but some time ago using ODD/Optical Disc Drives it helped to have a commercially created disc [CD-R or DVD-R/DVD+R, not RW] in the drive before starting the boot process. It may also help to change the setting that Hides empty drives, may make them more visible.

Update: I just plugged in a USB ODD, no disc in it, using a Notebook and it did not show in Device Manager so I went to the Options as posted and changed the Hide empty drives to unchecked, clicked Apply then OK. Back in Device Manager the drive now shows.

Hello again friends,
Thanks for waiting on me.

I have acquired 2A to 4A USB power supply and tested it with all 6 HL BP55EB40s one by one, I have change ports also but no avail.
Too bad!!! As I have had a hope for this to work. I have also tried all other advises.

I have one last possibility.
And that is to test these 6 devices one by one and altogether on Windows 10.
I need to wait for weigh until 20. July 2023. Then I will purchase VMware License and test these on VMware installed Windows 10 and maybe Windows 7 versions too.
I thank you all for your contribute and great advises!!!

There are no alternatives left.

Thanks,
Best regards,
