Recently upgraded and now File Explorer looks like:

A web site tells me it should look like this:

but I can't for the life of me find any setting that gets me there.

I'd like the ribbon back too, but that may be too much.

On the top bar, select the three dots on the right side.
Select Options and choose, in the top, to open with "Home"

There are a multitude of different ways to view the panels. If you select view in the top menu, you can experiment and see which you prefer.

Thanks, that does get me closer.

It appears there's no way to get the old view of desktop... at the top and drives below in the right-hand pane.

Hi,

When you have "explorer" open in 22H2 it defaults to "Home" view.
You can change this by going to "..." , scroll to the bottom and select "Options".
There you'll find at the top a menu that allows you to pick the default for "explorer" to open with.
You can customize what "explorer" will display by using the "View" options in the same menubar there as well.

Cheers, ;)

yes, the stock 22H2 Explorer if more GUI and for me I still prefer the old Explorer view, fast loading and easy managable and this depends on the user's preferences, not all users have the same taste :)

this is my current Explorer view ..
