I was a big fan of uBlock Origin it did a great job on Chrome out of the box and had lots of customisation but (as it says below) its days are numbered now Chrome has introduced Manifest V3, i haven't used Chrome for years preferring Firefox then Edge, as you can see below Edge is becoming more popular which for me is no surprise.
I stopped using Firefox a while ago as according to those in the know Firefox is all but finished 81% or their funding comes from Google for allowing Firefox to have Google as its integrated search engine if google pull it how can they survive.
So my question is Chrome is killing uBlock Origin but will it kill all other ad-blockers most of them charge for the full package and offer a free cut down version (I use Ghostery free) will these companies stand bye and see their profits dwindle or try to get round the Chrome block or are the days numbered for ad-blockers in chrome based browsers?
Last year, Google announced changes to its Chrome browser that signalled the end for popular extension uBlock Origin. The ad-blocker’s design put it at odds with Google’s new Manifest v3 requirements, with death as the likely outcome.
The Grim Reaper is here now, with Manifest V3’s full implementation all but complete. As of late February, Google appears to be nuking Chrome’s uBlock Origin support in waves. Tech journalists over at Bleeping Computer have noticed a disabling of the extension on some of their PCs; meanwhile on PCWorld’s Windows 10 and 11 devices running Chrome version 133.0.6943.127, uBlock Origin is still functioning.
If uBlock Origin and other extensions haven’t been taken away from you yet, they very soon will be—so it’s time to jump to a viable alternative ASAP. Going without an ad-blocker is a security risk, as rogue ads can push you to phishing sites or spread malware.
