Following earlier rumors about an increased ad presence, Microsoft has officially confirmed the addition of recommended apps to the Windows 11 Start Menu. The release notes for Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.3495 (Beta Channel) announced a significant change in the user experience.

The update adds a new feature to the Start Menu called Recommended, which displays app recommendations derived from the Microsoft Store. It's essential to remember that this feature isn't available on business devices run by companies and is only available to Windows Insiders in the US at this time.

Although some are unhappy about this change, Microsoft has included an easy way to turn off these recommendations. By pressing Windows + I, going to Personalization, choosing Start, and turning off the toggle for Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more, users can quickly turn off the feature from the Start Menu settings.

While including suggested apps might cause some anxiety, keep in mind that this feature is still in the testing stage and might not make it into a stable release. No less important, disabling these suggestions also shows how responsive Microsoft is to user feedback, which is a step in the right direction.
