Exciting news on the horizon for Windows 11 users! It appears like Microsoft is preparing to introduce a long-awaited feature: private notifications.

Users have reported that their notification badges now only display the app name, with no preview of the notification text. While this update appears intermittent, many have noted it since January 2024.

Twitter has been buzzing with screenshots shared by users experiencing these private notifications firsthand. But what’s the deal with this update? It appears Microsoft is rolling it out randomly to both Insiders and non-Insiders. Digging into the latest Dev build of Windows 11, we couldn’t locate an explicit option to enable this feature. However, there is an option to hide notification context on the lock screen, albeit on a per-app basis.

While some believe it is a bug, others see it as a positive inclusion, particularly for those who tend to share gadgets in public places. Just imagine the relief of knowing that your private alerts will not mistakenly reveal vital information to curious eyes!

Whether deliberate or not, this has the potential to make a huge difference for Windows 11 users. With Microsoft's continual attempts to improve user experience, we may soon have the choice to keep our notifications quiet but informative.
