Microsoft has just announced an exciting new addition to its OneNote software for Windows users: the AI ink tool, which is designed to alter handwritten notes. Sofia Thomas, Product Manager on the Office AI experiences team, proposed this unique innovation, which promises to improve the visual organization of handwritten inked text.

Handwriting straightening is a game changer for anyone who relies on handwritten notes, whether for personal or professional purposes. This tool transforms messy handwriting into beautifully structured text without compromising individuality. It provides a quick alternative for tidying up notes before sharing or reviewing them.

To use this feature, launch OneNote on your Windows device and open a notebook with ink. If using a new notebook, click the Draw tab and add ink to a page with a digital pen. Tap on a line of text or use the Lasso Select tool to select the ink you want to straighten, then choose Straighten.

While the tool is excellent at smoothing handwritten language, it has some restrictions. Currently, it does not straighten individual words, formulas, tables, photos, highlighter ink, or underlines, and it only supports Latin-based languages.

For those eager to try out this cutting-edge functionality, it is now accessible to Beta Channel users of OneNote for Windows version 2404 (Build 17530.20000) or later, notably Windows 11 users.

Besides this significant announcement, rumors abound about Microsoft's development of a contextual note-taking app that generates notes automatically by highlighting parts of the screen. Could this be the next evolution of Sticky Notes or a Copilot upgrade? Stay tuned for further updates on this intriguing development.
