In the Search windows on the Command Bar, an random image is displayed (Today).
Apart from the unnecessary battery consumption running in the background, this is an useless item which is hardly visible due to it's size.
Is there any way to get rid of this?
TIA

That looks like third party crap. Presumably you have tried right clicking it and removing?

Right click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
First make sure "Widgets is in the off position.
If that doesnt do it, scroll down and select "Other system tray icons"

See if you can identify the baddy and remove it

It's a Microsoft add, not third party.
I have managed to disable it by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and shutdown the Search entry.
But it shows up again after "x" time.
Being able to make it disappear with shutting down the Search entry is a proof that it belongs to Microsoft and now a third party.

This is what I mean:
And that is what I hid in favor of just the icon. In terms of clicking it doesn't make any difference, 1 click to get the cursor in the dialog box or 1 click to bring up the dialog box with the cursor in it.

I think I must be on a different version of 11??
In my taskbar options, I can only switch the search icon on or off . no other choices
But I dealt with the "too long" search icon another way, now it is just a simple icon.

I am not certain that is what the OP is looking for though?

These are the choices I get for that Search on the right-click of the Taskbar using the fully released/RTM and updated version of Win11 Pro.

'Tis interesting, the Search with label choice is no longer showing the 'Bing' thing on both my Win11 computers or my Win10 computers.

Dave, you're OK.
It's SEARCH that's a total waste of time. I have it turned off!

If I want to find a file, I open a CMD prompt and let DOS find it for me.
After all it IS the 'Disk Operating System' ,and it knows where every file is located.

Dir /a/s C:\Filename.ext

But then, that requires a minimum knowledge of DOS commands, which is a fleeting talent.

Tks. I dont use the ms search, do the ops first small picture meant little to me. I use a superior third party search.

Quite a bit ahead of yours.
So.....investigating.
The numbers suggest to me they are with the Insider Preview versions, always will be greater in size from the RTM/Release to Manufacture/Market version which mine are.

Hi Dave & Bighorn,

on Deskmodder (German blog, didn't find the contribution back), they said that Microsoft is transforming the "Search function" into an app (to isolate it form the kernel).
I would'nt trust to much the old "Search" for the moment (don't think that Microsoft invests a lot of work into it).

@ Gylenthal

if you know everyhting (better), why are you asking ?
