External Hard Drive Access

I have a Verbatim 47512 external hard drive (EHD) that I use for backing up everything. I last used it a month ago to update my backups. When I switched it on today it did appear under This PC but when clicking ^ icon on taskbar it shows as device to be ejected. Under Device Manager, USB Controllers, USB Mass Storage message “safe removal code 47”.

I restarted computer + EHD and changed setting from safe removal to quick removal. I then ^ safe removed device, shut down computer & EHD, restarted computer and switched on EHD. Same result EHD does not show under This PC.

I tried the EHD on a Windows 10 computer and everything works fine.
