How do I add a Store App shortcut to the desktop?

I have started to use the Windows App Store but I can't find a way to add a shortcut for an app to the desktop?

I can pin to the start menu but if I try to drag and drop an icon to the desktop I get an icon saying that it's not allowed. Surely this can't be the case, as it's such an obvious thing to not work?

Am I missing something here?
