My new PC has lost internet connection. I am using an old PC. According to one HP community, the new PC has a program error
and I need to run sp142005.exe to correct the error. I have tried many times to copy this onto a USB drive so I can run it on the new, faulty PC.

I can copy the file but can't paste it into a USB drive so I can run it on my new PC. When I try to paste into the USB, the PASTE is
grayed-out. I have tried 6-8 times on 3 different USB drives.

When I click the Settings icon>Network & Internet, I get a symbol at the top of the page saying my Wi-Fi is "Connected, secured." But I can't get on line. When I try to open a website, I get a "Hmmm... can't reach this page" or something similar.

How do I get sp142005.exe from this PC to my new PC if I can' t copy/paste to a USB drive?

I have no clue (and i have some doubt whether sp 142005 wil solve your problem) ! But if you want to proceed ..: :

What if you wrap the sp142005.exe into a a zip folder and put the zip folder on your Usb and the transfer the zip folder to your new PC? (e.g. with 7-zip: https://www.7-zip.org/)
Otherwise you could also create an iso file from sp142005 and put it on your Usb and then put the iso file back to your computer and mount it (create a folder on your (old) desktop, put the sp142005.exe inside, open folder2iso, search your newly created folder, create the iso, transfer it to your new laptop and mount it ! (https://www.trustfm.net/software/utilities/Folder2Iso.php).

Edit: there is also a nice tool from Rizonesoft, called "complete internet repair": https://www.techspot.com/downloads/5794-complete-internet-repair.html
